Client Side SMS Chat Program

Key Requirements

The client wanted to build a SMS chat program that could be integrated with third party SMS/MMS servers to provide services like chatting with mobile users from an online CRM Solution, distribute advertisements in mass on mobile phones and enable users to pay for paid services.

The business use was around collecting part of the revenue via premium payment, and some via WAP PUSH.

Key Features

Security and accountability were the two major concerns for the client as it was necessary to keep the conversation private during SMS chatting with online customer service representatives. Hence, every message was encrypted and sent using HTTPS. Also, the solution was made robust so that
it had capability of handling high message volume without affecting the performance (in terms of number of packets lost/undelivered or time of delivery).
Besides the queues maintained at the server side, we practically logged and maintained queues of every single transaction. There were some regulation in Europe that required our client to produce records of all the details of any wireless transaction. These details were useful in billing purposes as well.
